"When buying an absinthe fountain, you'll first decide between the all glass or metal & glass style" |
Absinthe Spoon
Absinthe spoons are specially designed spoons with perforations through the head. Sugar cubes are placed on the spoon as it rests on your glass. As you pour water over the spoon, the sugar slowly melts and seeps through the spoon adding the water and sweet taste to your absinthe. Spoons come in many styles, shapes and finishes. The price of the spoon will vary depending on the design and finish.
Premium finish spoons are available in gold or silver. These finishes can be quite expensive with spoons pricing in the $200 to $300 range. Gold and silver finishes are also very delicate so be sure to clean them with a non abrasive polish. Always be sure to buy from a reputable dealer to avoid disappointment
You can also find antique absinthe spoons. Some antiques are extremely rare and can fetch quite a hefty price. If you are in the market for an antique spoon, be sure and have it appraised by an experienced antique dealer.
Many fakes have recently been seen available on auction sites like e-bay so never buy an antique spoon sight unseen.

Absinthe Glass
Absinthe glasses come in many sizes and styles with the most popular being Blown, Molded, Reservoir and Dose Line.
Molded glasses are thicker, heavier and more rugged and usually cost less than their blown glass counterparts. Blown Absinthe Glasses will be more delicate in both design and strength. You should look for crystal or borosilicate glass as these are the most durable.
Reservoir Absinthe Glasses
Glasses with Reservoirs or Dose Lines are for measuring the amount of absinthe you put in your glass. The preferred ratio is 1:3 to 1:5. This, of course, is just an estimate and you will need to mix your drink to your liking. With a glass having a reservoir or dose line, you will always know the perfect water to absinthe ratio.
When serving Absinthe, it would be highly unorthodox not to observe the traditional preparation ritual. For the customary ritual, a set of specialized tools is required. Here, we try to make purchasing these pieces a little easier to understand.
