Everyone knows the historic louche method of absinthe preparation. But did you know there are also mixed drinks you can make with your verte and blanche absinthe? After surveying my fellow absintheurs for their favorite recipes, I have a list of some of the best combinations I could find. Compiling my recipe list was extremely taxing as I had to sample each and every one and I look forward to the next round of taste tests.
I must emphasize, absinthe is an extremely powerful liquor and should always be enjoyed in moderation. So, put away your fountain, glasses and spoons and check out this list of absinthe cocktails. Which one sounds good to you? Sazerac *Favorite Recipe1/2 Teaspoon Absinthe,
1 Teaspoon Simple Syrup 4 Dashes Peychaud's Bitters 1 Dash (a drop) Angostura Bitters 2 Ounces Rye Whiskey Lemon Peel Pack a 3-1/2 ounce absinthe glass with ice to chill glass. In another Rocks glass, moisten a sugar cube with water until saturated then crush. Blend with whiskey and bitters in shaker. Add a few ice cubes and stir to chill. Discard the ice from the first glass and pour in absinthe. Coat the entire inside of glass with the absinthe and discard the remainder. Strain the whiskey into the absinthe coated glass. Twist lemon peel over the glass to allow lemon oil to spritz over drink then rub the peel over the rim of the glass and discard peel. The Corpse Reviver
1 Ounce Gin
1 Ounce Cointreau 1 Ounce Lillet Blanc 1 Ounce Fresh Lemon Juice 1 Dash Absinthe Ice Cubes Orange peel Mix ingredients in shaker, strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with orange peel. The Absinthe Flip1/2 Ounce Absinthe
1/2 Ounce Cointreau Orange Liqueur 2 Teaspoon Lemon Juice 1 Egg 1 Teaspoon Sugar Nutmeg Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled whiskey glass. Sprinkle a little nutmeg on top and enjoy. The Absinthe Minded |
3 Ounce Gin
1/2 Ounce Absinthe
1/2 Ounce Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur
Dry Vermouth
Orange Peel
Mix gin and absinthe with ice into in a shaker. In a chilled cocktail glass, roll 1/2 once dry vermouth and discard excess. Strain the other ingredients into the cocktail glass and float 1/2 oz. of Grand Marnier. Garnish with an orange peel.
